Installing the Outlook add-in is a prerequisite for Microsoft 365 for Jira when activating the email feature. Learn more about the add-in and who is in charge to install it.


Connecting Outlook with Jira

When activating the email feature you decide for a deep connection between your Outlook inbox and Jira. Only when installing our Outlook add-in you can really benefit from all email features available.

Add-in required

It is the Outlook add-in that enables Jira features in your Outlook.

It allows you to e.g. create issues based on email content, to add emails to existing issues and to work with a sidebar to search for related issues or to access issue related information – all directly in your inbox.

We have listed some major features in Outlook you can only use when installing the add-in:

Create Jira issues directly in Outlook

Based on the content of your emails, you can easily create new Jira issues without leaving your inbox.


Search for related issues via sidebar

Based on the conversation or sender of your emails, you can conveniently search for related issues right in your inbox via our sidebar.

And access most relevant issue information.

Share an email or a whole email conversations to your Jira issue.

Add-in not required

Not every user in your team needs to necessarily install the Outlook add-in. Users primarily working in Jira can also read and answer back on emails even if they haven’t installed the Outlook add-in in their inbox.

Start new or answer back on emails JIRA CLOUD ONLY

Write and send completely new emails from Jira, connected to your own Outlook account.

Please note: Make sure to install the Outlook add-in to all those users, who work with emails a lot and want (and most probably need) to bring them to Jira. Otherwise, Jira user’s won’t be able to access emails in the issue in the first place.


Summarizing:
- With Outlook add-in: Access Jira features in Outlook and bring emails to Jira.
- Without Outlook add-in: Only access Outlook features in Jira.


Installation of add-in

In order to use the full amount of features in your emails (as mentioned above), we strongly recommend to install the Outlook add-in.

Please note: There are two different add-ins for your Outlook.
Please inform your Jira admin to check the requirements and differences first, to install the right one.
