Jira release notes

Below are the release notes for the Jira part of Microsoft 365 for Jira. Release notes for the Outlook add-in can be found here.

Please note: We roll out our Jira Cloud changes in batches, delayed by up to a week, based on instance size. The update might not be available immediately for you. Jira Datacenter releases will contain all cloud changes since the latest DC release.

Notable changes

• We introduced a Jira global permission a while back to control the visibility of the app, per user. However, this permission is not updated correctly by Jira and is causing issues for new users being added to activated projects. Therefore we have decided to make the use of the permission optional. If you have been using the Jira permission to control visibility, you'll need to enable the respective setting in the global app settings going forward

Support for Jira 10

With this release we are adding support for Jira 10. Please note that the v7 releases of our app will only be compatible with Jira 10 and later versions, due to the many changes introduced in the Jira platform. We will be continuing to release v6 versions for Jira 8 & Jira 9 as long as these versions are supported by Atlassian.

• AI features are coming. Turn on AI features in the global settings to enable them. For now, you can summarize chats when creating a chat backup (Manually in the issue, via automation, or via a presets built-in automation)

• Presets are now in early preview. You can already start configuring the new presets and experiment with it, until it goes live for all users in a few weeks. Presets allow Jira admins to fine-tune Microsoft 365 for Jira settings for specific use-cases. This ensures a smoother and more guided user experience, e.g. by prefilling attendees from Jira fields. You can create individual Presets for Microsoft Teams, Outlook emails and meetings, that will be available in your Jira or JSM projects. 

  • Teams Presets: Create Presets for starting Microsoft Teams chats or channel conversations within Jira issues, prefilled for with certain channels, attendees and more (e.g., Triage channel post, Customer chat).

  • Email Presets: Set up email Presets for sending Outlook emails from issues, prefilled with attendees and more (e.g., Project update, External input request). 

  • Meetings Presets: Create Presets for scheduling Outlook or Teams meetings from Jira, prefilled with attendees, response options and more (e.g., Project briefing, Triage meeting).

Outlook add-in web view deprecation

As communicated in our deprecation notes, we are now finally deprecating the Internet Explorer 11 and Edge Legacy web views for the Outlook add-in. This means, that going forward, only a selected amount of bug fixes will be ported back to users still relying on those web views, but no other improvements or features will become available. You can find more information about this in the Microsoft documentation. For some clients, manually deploying the WebView2 runtime will help, for some clients (e.g. perpetually licensed Outlook 2016/2019), an Office update will be the only option going forward.

You will still be able to use the existing version, but no new features will be shipped and we will not be doing any testing on this platform going forward.

To find out if you are still on an old version, we’ll be shipping an indicator with version 4.8, which you’ll be able to see in the “About” section of the add-in - see below.
